LINGUA FRANCA (Common Language) In #stargaterpg,
you'll find that we've pretty much developed our own language. Some of it
has come from typos, some of it has come from being lazy and the rest? Well,
not even we're sure. So if you don't understand a term, let Ang_ know and
she'll add it to this list of terms. By the way - there's no such thing as
typonese in our room. It's called Tizish (named after Tiz - yes, she has her
own language).
GM - Game Master (either Fryn or Ang)
Canon - anything factually stated within the show
Clone - an identical copy of a character or person
Droolworthy - Someone who's worth drooling over
Fanon - something that has been established as fact for the game, but hasn't been mentioned in the show
IC - In character
JP - Joint Post. A post for the game written between two or more players.
Mono - a derogatory term used for a person in distaste
Eskie - two meanings. In passing, it could mean a portable insulated container for keeping food or drink cool (it's an Australian term). Or, if in context, it has the same strength as 'mono', only referring to a different group of people.
NPC - non-playing character. A background character that's not actively posted for, but is involved in a storyline or plot
OOC - out of character
Org - an original. All clones come from Orgs.
PC - playing character. A normal character with a player.
Player - a person who controls an active character in the game
QC - Quantum Colony
RL - real life. Life outside the room/game/internet
RPG Room - #stargaterpg
Slash - refers to relationships between two members of the same gender (either male or female).
Slurp - the related action for someone droolworthy.
Smut - a piece of writing that involves a sexual situation
Tag - Used when writing a joint post to indicate that it is another player's turn to write. If there are only two people writing, a tag simply means it is the other person's turn to write. If there are more than two people writing, a tag will be written to include the person's name (either player or character). If not, a nameless tag means that it is open for anyone to write the next part.
The Con - Refers to Gatecon, the major Stargate SG-1 convention in the world, usually held in September. See
http://www.gatecon.com for more details.
The List - The stargaterpg mailing list at Yahoo! Groups where all of the posts for the game are sent to.
The Talk List - The stargaterpg_talk list at Yahoo! Groups for general chatter for the members of the Stargate Command: RPG.
Thunk - The sound made when one falls over, usually at the sight of someone found to be extremely attractive. Also refers to the actual action of someone falling over.
Thunkable - Someone who induces the 'thunk' action.
Thwap - Not quite a slap, not quite a punch either. Usually meant playfully and doesn't really hurt - even in RL. Ask for a demonstration if you ever meet one of the GMs, they'd be only too happy to help.
Tizish - The 'language' spoken by many of the game's members. It's similar to Typonese and the dictionary is growing as the players get worse and worse at typing.
TPTB - The Powers That Be - generally used to refer to the writers, actors and producers of the show...those who control the series seen on TV. Sometimes used to refer to the GMs. If used by a character, generally means the people in charge (eg. General Hammond, the JCS).
Trout - The common device in IRC (and now elsewhere) used to slap or thwap people.
Command - Stargate Command: RPG
Academy - the Stargate Academy RPG, another game run and played by many Command players.
TF - SGC Task Force. Fryn's RPG. SG-17 originally was a part of this game.
DG - dumping ground. Used to refer to other games that aren't associated with the Command, Academy or TF games that usually get the rejected applications of Command/Academy/TF.
